Ghost Clarkii Care

INTRODUCTION

Ghost Clarkii are a super rare morph of Procambarus Clarkii, there are many varieties of patterns. These rare morphs have recently started a fever in Asia, their patterns is what make them so valuable. Prices range depending on the quality of the pattern and how they’re unique. And trust me, you'll soon be addicted trying to collect all the patterns!

PATTERNS

There are 8 patterns that a ghost can be classified in:

  • Full color (beginner type)

  • White Cheek

  • Eagle head

  • Thai flag

  • Cow pattern

  • Snow head

  • Original color

  • Mutant color

TANK SIZE & ENVIRONMENT

I strongly recommend at least a 10 gallon for a juvenile, as they grow you should upgrade your aquarium to suit them. A longer and wider tank is recommended over taller tank due to them liking to walk and explore their surroundings. There should be many hiding spots for them to hide in and feel protected, this will ease their stress and also make moulting less stressful because they will be vulnerable to attack at that time. Aquarium plants should be avoided because they will DESTROY and eat them. Trimming from plants can be put in with them to eat, but beware it will get MESSY!! A community tank is not recommended because they can catch fish with their pincers and eat them, they should also be housed alone unless you have a big enough space for them to have their individual territory. Remember they are OMNIVORES and CANNIBALISTIC!! For their water condition, they have a wide range of pH from 6.5-8. Their water temperature should be anywhere in the range 65-75 F or 18-23 C, the higher the temperature, the more active they’ll be.

FEEDING

Their diet should consist of meaty food, shrimp sinking pellets, and also veggie matter. You can also feed them frozens, they will accept fish, daphnia, bloodworms and brine shrimp. They’ll also happily eat your freshly trimmed plants from your planted tank!

TANK MAINTENANCE

Their maintenance is rather easy, they should have the same maintenance like fish. I strongly recommend WEEKLY WATER CHANGE to make sure their water is pristine. Lifting decorations to clean in and around is recommended since crayfish loves to hide and stash their food somewhere safe! They’re also a messy eaters, water can get dirty very quickly depending on your feeding quantity.
